2022 Parade Grand Marshal

Rev. Lt. Col. Edward Coyle 
    

Msgr. Edward J. Coyle, 67, was born in Girardville, Pa (Schuylkill Co) in 1954.  He is the son of the late John and Marie (McAndrews) Coyle, and has three older brothers: Gerald, and the late Thomas and John. 

Msgr. Coyle attended St Joseph Catholic School and graduated from Cardinal Brennan High School in 1972. 
He studied for the priesthood at St. Charles Borromeo Seminary, Philadelphia, and Mary Immaculate Seminary, Northampton.  Msgr. was ordained a priest by Bishop Joseph McShea in 1980.
 

As a priest, he served at the Cathedral of St. Catharine of Siena for 8 years.  He then studied at The Catholic University of America, Washington, DC receiving a Master's Degree in Liturgical Studies. He served as the Secretary to Bishop Thomas Welsh and the Director of Worship. He was named a Monsignor in 1994. 
 

Msgr. Coyle served as a Chaplain in the PA Army National Guard for 22 years.   In 2014 he retired as the 213th Area Support Group Chaplain in Allentown.  He holds the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.  Following the events of September 11th, he was activated to serve at the Pentagon assisting families affected by the events.
 

He received the Legion of Honor award from the Chapel of the Four Chaplains.  He served as the National Chaplain for the Catholic War Veterans of America and presently serves as the State Chaplain for the Catholic War Veterans of America. 

Msgr. Coyle was the pastor of Most Blessed Sacrament Parish, Bally for over 19 years.  He was named pastor of St. Ann, Emmaus, PA in 2016.
